Author’s Words

The book, Flight of the Pink-headed Ducks and Other Stories, is a collection of five short stories that bring to life rare animals of the Indian Subcontinent, all negatively impacted by human actions – the Pink-headed Duck, Snow Leopard, Red Panda, Ganges River Dolphin and Great Indian Bustard.  Will we see the Pink-headed Duck again?  Can the Great Indian Bustard, Snow Leopard, Red Panda and Ganges River Dolphin be saved from vanishing?  In Katie Bagli’s stories these fears make way for new hope as we meet characters like Daiwik, Hansa and Aung San, who show us how a little care can go a really long way.

In the words of Sree Nandy, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of the premier wildlife magazine Saevus, ‘Katie’s stories are meant for the heart, weaved sensitively to kindle love for species on the precipice of extinction. So much so, that at the end of every story, it is not the Gangetic Dolphin but Delphie and not the Snow leopard but Pasha, whom you identify with. It feels sublimely easy to relate with their lives, challenges and their unenviable future. Realms of ominous data cannot work magic on a young mind like a simple story well told.’
