Dr. Monica Khanna

Dr. Monica Khanna is a renowned name in Children Literature. She is a published author of ten hugely popular books in various genres. Her passion for books, love for kids, and the desire to revive and rekindle an interest in the dying art of reading amongst children have been instrumental in her decision to take up writing fiction.

She believes firmly in administering a daily dose of Vitamin R (Reading) to children, and has been conducting workshops for parents, teachers, and children to promote and encourage reading habits.

Dr. Khanna completed her high school from International School Bangkok. After moving to India, she completed her B.A., M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in English Literature. She works as Associate Professor at Indira Institute of Business Management, and Consultant at Indian School of Management and Entrepreneurship. She has around twenty-five years of experience in the field of academics as well as in journalism and business.

Dr. Monica Khanna enjoyed weaving stories from early childhood and was fascinated with the power of words. As a student at International School Bangkok, she opted for Creative Writing as a subject. Impressed with her aptitude for writing, her teachers encouraged her to explore her talent. For three decades, she found neither the time nor the inclination to pursue her passion. In fact, it was not until her daughter urged her to tell stories that she considered taking up writing seriously and publishing her work.

She has published ten books in various genres ranging from scholarly books on gender and media studies to grammar to short stories for children.

  • Her first book ‘Deconstructing Motherhood’ (2010) deals with the ideology of motherhood in Indian culture.
  • ‘Peek a Boo Manya’ (2016) is a collection of short stories for children which attempts to create a familiar world that Indian children can identify with and relate to.
  • ‘Wickety Whack’ (2017) is full of whacky humour, mischief, fun and learning in the classroom.
  • ‘Re-Visioning Mythology in Indian Literature’ (2017) deals with the reinterpretation and subversion of Hindu myths in contemporary Indian literature.
  • In 2018, she authored three books on grammar and composition for grades 6-8 for Eupheus Learning.
  • ‘Munches, Punches &Manya’s Hunches’ (2019) was a sequel to ‘Peek A Boo Manya’.
