‘Weber the Spider’ is one of the 17 storybooks in ‘The Grandma Earth Series’, conceptualized and developed by Prof (Dr) Shalini Verma ‘Lifoholic’ – Founder of Samvaw Foundation and published by Books33 (A Unit of Aadya Green Gifting Pvt. Ltd.).

The Grandma Earth Series has been highly appreciated by one and all – celebrities, social entrepreneurs, impact champions, civil societies & NGOs, academicians, parents and teachers. Pheroza J. Godrej – Chairperson – Godrej Archives Council & Godrej Mangroves and Executive Board Member – Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development International Advisory Council – says, “What a wonderful idea it is to embark on a venture of creating 17 different stories, each story book crafted to be based on one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the United Nations! This brilliant endeavour by the publishers – Books33 and SAMVAW Foundation – to implant the seeds of sustainable living in young, tender minds …”.

In the words of Dr. Snehal Padhye – Director – Technical Strategy, Crown Biosciences, “The moral of each story is very pertinent and deeply rooted in our all-inclusive culture and the theme of India’s G20 presidency “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, that translates to “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” Indeed, a fun read for one and all!

The objective of this series is to make young children in the age group of 3-8 years aware about the Mission LiFE & 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As recommended by NEP 2020, STORYTELLING pedagogy has been adopted throughout this series “to engage and strengthen the Foundational Learning of the children of the age group 3-8 years going to Anganwadi/pre-school/Balvatika or class 1 & 2 of regular schools”.

Written by Katie Bagli, illustrated by Sushmita Karmakar and designed by Shamim Nida, ‘Weber the Spider’ is based on based on SDG 15 – ‘Life on Land’. The story centres around Weber the spider and his exciting journey in the different terrains of the country – from snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas to the grasslands of Kaziranga to the Sundarbans – the largest Mangrove forest in the world – to the Kanha forest in the middle of India and to finally landing in the Kutch dessert!

In the encouraging words of Dilnaz Bharucha – Principal – Universal School, Tardeo, “In the enchanting world of children’s literature, let’s embark on a remarkable journey alongside Katie’s book ‘Weber the Spider’. Through the pages of this captivating tale, you will witness the extraordinary odyssey of Weber as he travels from the majestic heights of the Himalayas to the sprawling plains and arid deserts of India.”
